Overview

Cannon Lane Pre-school provides high quality learning to give children the best possible start in life.

Children choose from a variety of activities to develop at their own pace, through discovery and exploration.   We follow the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage of the National Curriculum (EYFS), which enables children to develop key learning skills in preparation for the next stage in their education.

All our sessions aim to develop children's curiosity and enthusiasm for learning through the three crucial prime areas of learning:-

  • communication and language
  • physical development
  • personal, social and emotional development.

Learning is further supported through four specific areas

  • literacy;
  • mathematics;
  • understanding the world and
  • expressive arts and design.

Each session is planned around themes emphasized by our Interest and Nature Tables and our Imaginative Play Area, supported by

  • painting sand and water play,
  • clay and dough,
  • dressing up,
  • music, book and home corners,
  • jigsaws, small manipulative toys,
  • larger construction items and physical challenges e.g.  on our climbing frame.

The children enjoy their mid-morning snack through our "café" system supporting social interaction. Our 'free-flow' policy using the large hall/outdoor area gives scope for more activities with sessions ending with singing and story-time.
